Breck Epic Mountain Bike Stage Race
The Breck Epic is a 6-day ultra-endurance mountain bike stage race held in the sprawling backcountry surrounding the Victorian mining town of Breckenridge, Colorado. After a 10-mile time-trial on day one athletes will contest 5 subsequent stages spending 4-8 hours on course each day, most of it over 10,000 feet.
Al Johnson Memorial Uphill/Downhill Telemark Ski Race
AKA – “The AJ”. This race takes the cake. It’s celebrating 35 years in 2009 and honors Al Johnson, a mail carrier in the late 1800’s who would ski between Crested Butte and Crystal to deliver mail. He skied on boards 14′ long, 4″ wide and 1.5″ thick. So we appreciate the fact that the AJ is on much lighter tele gear. It’s the costume event of the year!
An extraordinary backcountry ski race from Crested Butte to Aspen, Colorado. Based on the tradition of mail routes which connected the Colorado mining towns of Crested Butte and Aspen in the 1880s, the 40-mile course starts at 9,000 feet in Crested Butte, takes skiers through Mt. Crested Butte Ski Resort, over two mountain passes and finishes in the City of Aspen at the base of the Aspen Skiing Mountain.
